Library without barriers

In the building at Armia Krajowa Avenue 36A, readers with disabilities can use the elevator and a stair platform activated upon request by the interested person. Accessible restrooms are located on the ground floor and the second floor of the building.

Accessibility Facilities for People with Specific Needs at the University Library of the Jan Długosz University in Częstochowa

In accordance with the Regulations of the University Library:
· § 6(2) – Users with disabilities are given priority service.
· § 6(3) – Animals are not permitted in the University Library, with the exception of assistance dogs.
· § 16(7) – The University Library Reading Room provides dedicated workstations for users with specific needs, including people with disabilities, enabling access to the library catalogue, library resources and digital collections. These workstations are equipped with specialist assistive software.

Workstation for Users with Physical Disabilities (Reading Room)
· Adjustable ergonomic chair (seat height, backrest tilt and seat depth adjustment up to 5 cm), with headrest, armrests and lumbar support.
· Electrically height-adjustable desk (with anti-collision function).
· Computer with a 27-inch monitor.
· TrackMan Marble specialist trackball mouse designed for users with limited hand mobility.

Workstation for Blind and Partially Sighted Users (Reading Room)
· Adjustable ergonomic chair (seat height, backrest tilt and seat depth adjustment up to 5 cm), with headrest, armrests and lumbar support.
· Electrically height-adjustable desk (with anti-collision function).
· Computer with a 27-inch monitor mounted on a height- and tilt-adjustable arm.
· Index Basic-D V5 Braille embosser for printing documents in Braille.
· HumanWare Brailliant BI 40 refreshable Braille display, enabling users to read and input text in Braille.
· MAGic Large Print Keyboard, a specialist keyboard designed for partially sighted users working with MAGic magnification software.
· MAGic screen magnification and speech software with a Polish speech synthesiser.
· NVDA (NonVisual Desktop Access) screen reader with Polish male and female voices, enabling computer access through speech synthesis or a refreshable Braille display.
· Logitech C920e HD 1080p camera, providing text magnification and on-screen display support.

Additional Assistive Equipment (Reading Room)
· Acrobat HD Ultra Long Arm video magnifier for reading, writing and viewing objects at both close and distance.
· Snow 12 HD OCR electronic magnifier for displaying enlarged text, graphics and objects, with optical character recognition (OCR) and text-to-speech functionality.
· Auto-Lektor Basic (version 3-1.7) reading device for printed texts using speech synthesis.

Facilities for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Users (Lending Department)
· Lenovo Tab M10 FHD Plus tablet providing access to a Polish Sign Language interpreter via the Jan Długosz University website.

Other Organisational and Information Accessibility Facilities Available at the University Library
· Braille signage on the Library entrance doors, library catalogue area, Reading Room and Lending Department, enabling users to identify rooms.
· Access to the online library catalogue, allowing users to search the collections without visiting the Library in person.
· The option for an authorised representative to borrow and return library materials on behalf of a library user with a disability.
· Assistance from Library staff in searching the catalogue and bibliographic databases, and in using the Library's collections and resources.
· Service counters in all Library departments adapted to the needs of users with physical disabilities.
· Adequately wide aisles between shelving in the Reading Room to ensure easy movement and accessibility.
· Clear colour-coded (reflective) labelling of Reading Room collections to facilitate orientation and help users locate library materials.
